In 1994, San
Francisco voters supported a bond measure renovating the
"old" Main Library as the new home of the Asian Art
Museum. The Asian Art Museum will house five levels for
galleries/exhibition spaces, museum store, multi-purpose
gathering spaces, restaurant/café, storage areas, workshops,
studios, classrooms, library and administrative offices.
The
penthouse level will house utility equipment for mechanical,
electrical and elevator systems.
